Approaching Zanguga Siding with a train for Victoria Falls

A coal train seen in the remote and unspoiled landscape of Western Zimbabwe and hauled by one of the last revenue-earning garrets in the world.

NRZ main line garrett No 613 storms across the bridge just adjacent to Lokozi Siding. This location is within Hwange National Park and Elephants are often to be seen beneath the bridge.

Having just taken water, No 395 departs Matetsi Station with a train bound for Victoria Falls.

Weighing 180 tons in working order and delivered in 1952 No 613 moves her passenger charter northwards, bound for Matetsi.

In continuous service since she was delivered in 1950, No 395 catches the first warm rays of the Zimbabwean sunrise on the first photo runby of the day.

Garratt # 12 of the Hwange Colliery, the former 15A 370 of National Railways of Zimbabwe (Beyer Peacock 1948), with a coal train in front of the impressive industrial complex of the mine.

A pair of DE10 GMs pass beneath the Baobab Hotel at Hwange. I remember being quite annoyed that there wasn`t a Garratt steam loco heading this train.
