The last true Conrail unit I photographed on NS. When I moved to Atlanta in 2000, there was a lot more Conrail and a lot less skyscrapers behind the Atlanta Waterworks smokestack.
With 9,600 horsepower and 32 grain hoppers, a welcome weekend train on my local shortline. The leader is ex-NW 2708, exx-NKP 708. Unfortunately, the 8705 has since received a nose job.
Ermahgerd! ...Rurdrerler Hurtege!!!!!!!
The Central of Georgia Heritage leads Charlotte to Atlanta train 221, back when NS assigned ample horsepower to their intermodal trains.
By far my favorite 'official' BNSF paint scheme, leading a run-through ethanol load into Atlanta.
An extra intermodal with two KCSM units originated south of the border and ran straight to Atlanta with 60 wells of intermodal, demonstrating the continued success of the NS/KCS partnership.
Catching the Veteran's unit leading *on* Veteran's day is somewhat akin to catching a Heritage Locomotive on home railroad trackage!
Except for a dinged-up plow, this two year old CREX unit is looking good for a unit in coal service.
Dogwoods and dwarf signals... It may look like West Virginia or Kentucky, but this location is literally 4 miles from downtown Atlanta.
A text from a friend allowed me to capture a late running GNRR switch job. My wife calls it the Guns-N-Roses Railroad.
The original Norfolk Southern Heritage passes the First Baptist Church in Forest Park.
A 111 car Doraville to East Point transfer passes coal train 735-04 in downtown Atlanta.
A pair of high hoods bring some empty cement hoppers back to Doraville Yard.
A colorful consist with a grey leader got me out of the house with my 2 & 4 year old kids. Luckily the train kept rolling so no time for boredom to take hold.
Veteran's unit leading a Jacksonville to Chicago intermodal on the 3rd of July.
