Welcome back to the Pokey, NS 185. After a brief hiatus, NS 185 is back on the Pokey. It seems to be more of a mixed freight instead of a boxcar train this time around.

This photo is pure Pokey. A coal drag struggling to make the tuff grade as it exits the Vivian Tunnel and crosses Elkhorn Creek. As you can see, the old cement marker is still in use.

In a scene played out several times a day, a pusher set shoves a coal drag across the massive Maybeury bridge and up the Elkhorn grade. He will soon cutoff and return back downhill to wait on anot... (more)

It’s early May and the jungle-like growth has already swallowed the Tug Valley. Only a path laid by N&W remains clear for the trains.

An ex-UP leaser leads a load of West Virginia black diamond off the east leg of the Gilbert Br. wye and on to the Pokey main.

Four big units make up todays lashup on 233. They include a catfish, two SD 50's numbered 6518 and 6519, and a CR dash-8.

This remote and rugged area of trackage follows a path carved out by the Tug River. The tracks are literally laid out betwen the mountains and the river. It may be 100' wide between them here.
