After departing Cumberland, Q277 will fall short of the Sand Patch grade to get it's helper at Hyndman. Taken from Haystack mountain which is only a brief, easy hike.

B254 is shoving hard against a coal drag at Sand Patch. If you look closely, you can see the conductor getting to ready to "cut on the fly" as soon as they crest the summit.
