Wearing it’s old “paper railroad” number but no longer sublettered this veteran sports shiny new paint. No switcher has been assigned to Johnson City for man years now.

Running as Extra 2707, train 167 receives orders from the Statesville agent. The train left the Washington-NOLA main at Mooresville, and is about to head west toward Asheville.

Month approximate. Wearing it’s old Central of Georgia number but the Southern name this was one of only five rostered by C of G in a rather confusing switcher roster.

A pair of Canadian National S13’s pass between a CN FPA4 and visiting Southern FP7 6141 at Spadina Engine Terminal in Toronto.

Back when they still had some reputation a matched of a late model EMDs wheels a northbound mixed merchandise train through the city at a good clip.

As I recall this was coming thru the former C of G Yard. There so many in those days I still marvel that they are gone. The show was over by 1974 though.

As delivered, with a tiny tank and oil bath air filters, I could not find another on the site.

Date approximate. A relic sits in front of the magnificent station awaiting work. The station is now known as California Dreaming.

The four Southern FP7 units have been run around the excursion train and are ready to depart for the return to Asheville, NC. The rain had finally let up and the sun made a weak appearance.

Two high nose GP30 units sit next to the older FP7 units in Asheville. One of these units, 2601, has been restored at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer.

All four Southern Railway FP7 units were in Asheville on this Friday to pull an excursion to Bulls Gap, Tennessee and back. The excursion left Asheville in a steady rain the next morning. This uni... (more)
