The westbound California Zephyr, delayed by a rock slide just outside of Grand River Canyon, carves its way west through the sunset toward Salt Lake City through the deserts of Colorado.

A nine-hour late southbound Coast Starlight (broken rail the night before in Oregon) meanders underneath Mount Shasta, a landmark usually only seen by moonlight (if at all).
