Remarks & Notes |
UP 8444 stands at the Cheyenne passenger station coupled ahead of Amtrak E8 330 on the headend of #6. In the early days of Amtrak, UP would ferry the big locomotive to and from Denver on the headend of the San Francisco Zephyr. We took advantage of the eastward (southbound) move a couple of times, going to Cheyenne the day prior to the fantrip, getting in a fast run for no extra fare. Imagine the uninitiated passengers who told their friends when they arrived at their destination how an old steam locomotive had to pull the train because there was something "wrong" with the Amtrak diesels! |
