Remarks & Notes |
Way back in 1989, Ken Devlin and I waited at the Bushey Bridge for ages awaiting the return of this excursion train. Two Southerner expresses passed by under cloud cover before the sun magically appeared for J 1211 to clank across the bridge with its Otago Excursion Train Trust cars. J 1211 was built by North British in Scotland in 1939 and similar Ja locos were later built at the NZGR's Hillside workshops. The streamlining was removed after a few years of service, but 1211 was restored with this feature in time for the NZR's 125th anniversary in 1988. Image scanned from a Fuji print negative that seems to have survived in reasonable condition. |
