On Dec. 5, 1970, Rio Grande's Provo Switcher has been assigned the task of hauling former Union Pacific 2-8-0 #618 and six cars to the mouth of Provo Canyon. Here the train moves slowly up the branch a a few miles north of Provo near Edgemont. The 618 was donated by the Union Pacific to the State of Utah in 1958. By 1970 it was shipped from the Salt Lake Fairpark to serve on the new 'Heber Creeper' tourist line in Provo Canyon. By late in 1972, this trackage was abandoned and dismantled.
