I call them “Big Blues”, but train crews refer to them as “breadbins”..... Transnet Freight Rail’s Class 10E/10E1/10E2 Co-Co 3kvA heavy haul freight locomotives, still sporting predecessor Spoornet’s blue livery. Here four eastbound 10E1’s are seen sweeping around the curve into Arbor station, running on the westbound track on bi-directional CTC and hauling 100 empty high capacity coal wagons to the mines around Witbank. The rear of the train can be seen behind the small tree to the left of the lead locomotive. Only a sprinkling of Cosmos flowers remain on either side of the tracks, heralding the onset of autumn on the South African highveld.
