Sumpter's handsome Mike. One of the finest-looking narrow gauge locomotives still in operation, Sumpter Valley's #19 hauls a mixed freight eastbound out of Sumpter, bound for McEwen. Built by Alco as a wood-burner in 1920, this engine served the Sumpter Valley for 20 years before heading north serve her country in Alaska during World War II. Repatriated to her home state in the late 1970s and restored to operating condition some 20 years later, she's approaching 100 years old, but you'd never know it from this picture.
