To see a major Class One railroad use a caboose in modern day railroading is truly a sight to see, but you can observe exactly that in Chillicothe, Ohio almost daily. CSX's very own CH&D local or Chillicothe local uses ex-Baltimore and Ohio and later Chessie System caboose #904054 for its operations in and around the Chillicothe area. The crew traverses ex-B&O, C&O, and CH&D trackage which includes a set of Diamonds over the ex-Norfolk and Western Columbus Line, now Norfolk Southern at the Glatfelter Paper Mill. Many of the crew's operations utilize shoving, or reverse moves which provides for a unique situation in which the caboose is helpful. A piece of railroad history worth its weight in gold, historically and operationally. Taken 1/9/2015.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
