Remarks & Notes |
During the winter months often a lumber or pipe barge will dock in Seward and the railroad will haul the contents north to Anchorage. Once in Anchorage the railroad will switch out the local cars and send the balance to Fairbanks in the regularly scheduled north freight. Such was the case on a beautiful March afternoon in 2014. I was down in Seward for a day trip and saw this train depart a few hours before I did and I managed to catch up 75 miles later. That is what 60 loads and 3% grades will do to a trains velocity. |
