On a cool spring Tehachapi night, under the near full moon, the motion blur of a south bound BNSF intermodal moves along through the curves and up the grade between tunnels 1 and 2. The light of a north bound drifting down the hill, exiting the Allard horseshoe, to meet this intermodal at the north end of Bealville siding, can be seen painted on the hill side above the train. Night action on the railroad in the Tehachapi’s can be very busy at times. There were over 10 trains that navigated the mountain’s grade in 4 hours time on this night, all from 8pm to midnight.
