"Water", that was the word on the street in this state. An unusual wet summer has made operations on the RCP&E difficult. From wash outs, to slow orders, to the lack of people, to congestion, the west end of this railroad didn't seem to be running very well. That made train watching alittle harder cause things were day to day and unpredictable.
This Rapid City to Huron train is about 25 miles into their trip from Rapid City to Phillip for the next crew change. The crew got on at Box Elder and has been slowly working east for the past 2 hours. Many 10 mph slow orders in the 40 mph areas made traffic move even slower than the normal snail pace for the PRC. As the sun sets the train passes the abandon town of Owanka, MP 615.3. The orange really looks good out here in this landscape, and nothing beats a trio of matched painted 40's!
