Delaware and Hudson Reborn on the Slate Picker!
Like a ghost appearing amidst the snow a vintage Alco RS36 in D&H inspired paint (but privately owned lettered Southern New England 5012) is shoved south across the Route 61 crossing in the small village. This is the modern day Batten Kill Railroad that operates the surviving southern 16 miles of the former 52 mile long D&H Washington Branch.
This newly arrived loco is making its first trip on the property and may very well see use here. While not an original ex D&H unit (this is one of two of the model built for the Atlantic & Danville) it sure is close enough to fool you! |
