Time to fly! The city of Montclair, CA generously donated UP Caboose 25392 to the RailGiants Train Museum to make room for an eventual 10 freeway expansion. The motion was approved during a May 2019 city council meeting. The caboose sat near the Monte Vista freeway entrance since May of 2004 when it was moved from Alma Hoffman park near city hall to build a skate park. The caboose started its life in November of 1955 numbered as 2792. It was later changed in August 1960 to its current number. The city of Montclair acquired it sometime in 1987 after its official retirement May 15th, 1986. Unfortunately, there is not much more information on the caboose. The city did not have any documentation to pass onto RailGiants. At 6am the morning of February 26th, the 140 ton crane was set up to move the 20 ton caboose to its new home in the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. Thankfully, I got the day off of work and was able to document the entire move for the museum. In this photo, the caboose is all strapped in and ready to be lifted to the lowboy trailer (out of view).
