CSX X580, an extra of the regularly scheduled Q580, heads north for the crew change point in Wauhatchie, passing through Chetoogeta Mountain Tunnel in Two Tunnels Hill, GA.
On the point is SD50-3 8619, one of only 3 (maybe 4) SD50's that were still active on the roster at the time of this photograph being taken. With two of them already being tagged to go into storage upon their next times arriving to either Huntington, WV or Waycross, GA & with this likely being the final time that an SD50 would lead on the W&A, I jumped on the opportunity to catch it while heading home.
We had to wait for them to work in Dalton, which included combining with the previous days 580 do to severe storms in the area a couple nights before. We also had to worry about being #cloudf*$&%d because someone (I won't bring up names) had to bring up the c word when there were none of them in sight & sure enough, after he said that, they started to show up.
While we almost got screwed over by the c word, thankfully for his behind, they parted shortly after the lead motor cleared the tunnel, allowing us to get a well lit shot. So luckily for him, we didn't have to resort to violence afterall. Better to be lucky I guess.
