An eastbound Conrail train crosses from Allentown to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on one of Allentown Yard’s receiving tracks. A Penn Central SD40 and an Erie Lackawanna U36C lead the consist out of the yard. As college students without a car on this day, I walked from South Bethlehem about three miles to this location. Shortly after taking this photo, the engineer invited us up to the cab. After learning where we lived, he offered us a ride back across the river. He could not stop, but after giving me a crash course on the now-forbidden practice of dropping off of a moving train, he slowed near the former Lehigh Valley station, and I was a short walk from the dorm.
