Fenced At Breakneck Ridge. After receiving a variety of safety upgrades, the MTA Metro-North Railroad Breakneck Ridge Station in Fishkill, New York reopened on May 28, 2022. This station is one of only three in New York State on Metro-North Railroad east of Hudson service that have low level platforms (the others being Appalachian Trail and Manitou) and there had been escalating concerns about hikers crossing the tracks. Since there are no trains that stop here during the week, and on weekends and holidays the are six northbound trains stop in the morning and five southbound trains in the evening, most of the train traffic travels through at a significant speed. Fences have been erected along the east side of of the tracks bordering Route 9D, as well as a portion of the west side that parallels the Hudson River. On June 13, 2022, MNCW 217 (P32AC-DM) leads train 839 from Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie, New York, seen passing the southbound platform. Also of note are the black rubber anti-trespass panels and the elevated communications equipment, part of storm hardening efforts since Hurricane Sandy related damage.
