Cowl Geep. During a tour of the NJ Transit Meadowlands Maintenance Complex in Kearny, New Jersey on Sunday, June 24, 2007, NJTR GP40FH-2 4139 was found resting inside the facility. This engine was (re)built by Morrison Knudsen using the cab of CRIP 389 (GP40, EMD, 1/1969) cab and the cowl from BN 6629 (F45, EMD, 4/1971). Of 21 of these units manufactured between 1987-1990, six were purchased by MTA Metro-North Railroad and are still in service. NJT received 15, this unit is the only one still in the State of New Jersey in this form, operating as a switcher for Kinkisharyo in Piscataway, New Jersey.
