Remarks & Notes |
OKLAHOMA CITY June 13 2023 — Oklahoma Railway Museum SW8 OKRX 84 has just switched the experimental hydrogen-powered HH20B OKRX 1205 to the long hood end of the SW8 in preparation for the next day's passenger operations to be pulled by the 48. EMD built the SW8 in 1952 and delivered it to the U.S. Army as No. 2034. After a rebuild at Hill Air Force Base UT in 1987 it was assigned to the Army Ammunition plant in McAlister OK. In 1992 it was transferred to the Army’s Fort Sill in Oklahoma. The locomotive was eventually acquired by the Oklahoma Railway Museum. In 2015 the locomotive was repainted in MKT colors by ORM volunteers and renumbered to OKRX 48. The HH20b was recently acquired by the museum. BNSF tested the unit in Colorado and California before donating it to the museum. It was rebuilt from a Canadian Pacific GG20B. Corrections, additions and comments welcome. My photo. |
