MARC In The Dark. Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC) GP39PH-3C (née-MILW 2050, GP40, 1/1968) had recently returned from Progress Rail when it was sitting at the MARC Riverside facility in Baltimore, Maryland on the night of June 9, 2022. This locomotive is the highest numbered of the six that joined the fleet as GP39H-2s after rebuild by Morrison Knudsen, and are now in their third life. Their standard cabs make them versatile for switching and protect duties, and thus they have continued to find a valuable role with MARC in spite of the MP36PH-3C, SC-44 and HHP-8s units on the property, and have also outlasted the AEM-7s.
