Swift Stream To The Hudson River. On September 1, 2024, the former New York Central Railroad "Swift Stream" (RPCX 800460) held the markers on Amtrak Train 48 (Lake Shore Limited) as it arrived in New York City, seen here next to the West Side Highway passing under Grant's Tomb and Riverside Drive. This Budd built six bedroom-lounge car was once part of the 'New England States' (Boston-Chicago) consist, and has been traveling the rails as private varnish for many years. The car was recently purchased by the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey and this trip was its delivery to the organization. URHS announced that it will be on display at the "Museum For A Day" in Boonton, New Jersey, and soon join fellow NYC veterans "43" (tavern/lounge) and "Hickory Creek" (bedroom/lounge) on its Hudson River Rail Excursions between New York City and Albany-Rensselaer, New York.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
