When Coming Back From Rome. Genesee Valley Transportation's (GVT) Mohawk, Adirondack and Northern (MHWA) 805 (ex-BCOL 805, née-EL 2455, Alco, C425, 10/1964) led the Rome job (Z343 on CSX) and was coming off of the main to the railroad's Utica, New York yard on March 14, 2019 when it passed by the former New York Central roundhouse with a sizable cut of cars. The locomotive has since had its British Columbia Railway paint scheme refreshed. Consistent with the colorful railroad history of Utica, tracks in this are are still used by five different railroads today, including the MHWA, Amtrak, CSX, New York Susquehanna and Western, and the Adirondack Railroad.
New York state has the largest number of ALCO diesel locomotives working in everyday service. Here are some of them. Soon I hope to chronicle all of them.
