Southbound RF&P No. 275 was approaching Vaughan's Crossing at the north end of Ashland, VA on Feb. 11, 1978 with two GP35s and a GP7. The sharp eye will notice the SCL caboose spliced into the train 15 or so cars back. This was done on occasion at the split between two blocks of traffic. It would expedite the move down the road if the train would leave a block for another train. Possibly, the cab marks the split between the Raleigh TOFC and the Atlanta TOFC. I can't say for sure.
i was born in virginia in 1972. when i think of railroads that shaped the commonwealth. i think of railroads like, SCL, N&W and southern. this is a tribute to those wonderful days gone by and for those who remember it well.
