One of the nicest outdoor railroad displays I've ever encountered is this exhibit in Mendota, Illinois. Burlington Route 4978 is in great condition, and appears ready to highball out of town. Note that there is a high fence to keep people out, but it's placed far enough back to allow for photography.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
