Probably one of the most paintless, patched, rusty locomotives I have ever photographed that was still active sits at Chadron, Nebraska, on July 14, 2008. But hey, at least it’s an SD9! Nebkota No. 614 is former Southern Pacific unit, last wearing No. 4353, and is being fueled with Nebkota GP7 No. 49, which is a former Rio Grande locomotive. No. 49 is painted in a Chicago and North Western-like livery, which will later adorn 614 too.
