These handsome CNW SD38-2s were among my favorite motive power on the railroad. Trouble was they were specifically ordered for hump and transfer duties in Chicago, so did not normally ventured very far from home. In talking with Jim Zito (VP-Operations CNW) one time, he told me how proud he was to be able to acquire these units (in the late 70s) and replace aging GP7s, NW2s, and BU slugs. These were some of the last models to be delivered in the traditional yellow/green scheme from the early 1960s.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
