The tired crews of a pair of Nevada Northern Locomotives watch impatiently as a Switchman struggles to break a frozen switch free. The men have been on duty since before dawn and the fatigue, cold and hunger are now taking their toll. They can see a nice, warm engine house just ahead, but it might as well be a million miles away if they can't overcome this last obstacle. They'll give this young gent another minute or two to flail away before calling for the blow-torches, which are a necessary part of the railroader's kit in frigid East Ely.
