NECR 608 heads south into Willimantic, passing some remains of the old Central Vermont Railroad and New Haven Railroad. The retaining stone wall to the right of 608 is from the CV, and the track immediately to the left (engineer side) is the NH Midland Division main that led to Hartford, most of which is torn up west of Willimantic. The track at the bottom of the hill was part of the old New Haven RR's Willimantic Yard, and north of this spot there was a wye and roundhouse, the area being called Columbia Junction. The trains could either go to Palmer on the CV, or Hartford or New Haven on the NH.
