Amtrak Train #5 exits the Moffat Tunnel

A couple of hours late, Amtrak 6speds through Hazen.

The eastbound California Zephyr, running on time, on the former D&RG's Dotsero cutoff, alongside the Colorado River. In a mile or two it will pass its westbound counterpart, also on time.

The Zephyr rounds a bend on the water front in Pinole.

Due to the Nixon gas shortage, I was not able to get a lot of photos of the E-units while they were on the Zephyr but I did get this as the train passes thru Emigrant Gap and out onto Smart Ridge.... (more)

With Donner Pass now behind it, the eastbound California Zephyr speeds through Verdi, on the way to its next stop of Reno.

As the cold night begins to set in, #6 heads east from the station stop at Princeton over 4 hours late.
