This classic locomotive is on display outside the headquarters of the Florida Department of Agriculture in Tallahassee. A plaque at the site reads:
"LURAVILLE LOCOMOTIVE (circa 1850 - 1855)
Perhaps one of the oldest surviving steam locomotives in America, this classic example of the Great Iron Horse was retrieved from the Suwannee River in 1979.
For many years, Luraville natives speculated that the locomotive jumped its tracks and careened into the river. However, knowledgeable railroad buffs have discounted this colorful tale and suggest it accidentally fell in while a logging company was attempting to barge it across the Suwannee."
