Tough winter day on the Kyle—24
Derailed Kyle plow extra rests in the snow of a December 29-30 storm that dumped over 30 inches of the white stuff in western Kansas and eastern Colorado. EMD CEFX SD45T-2 No. 9282 leaned over with the plow, and derailed trailing sister No. 9245 and leaving former Santa Fe NREX SD45-2 No. 6486 still on the rails. Fortunately, the crew wasn’t injured, but the plow extra’s day was quickly ended here at Kanorado, Kansas, on January 2, 2007. Note the darker earth the plow started digging up off the right-of-way before it came to rest.
