The "Pennsylvania Avenue Subway", built at the turn of the last century, provided a sub-grade connection between the Reading and the B&O. It served as an industrial lead for various central Philadelphia industries, including the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The tunnel, abandoned and tracks removed in the 1980's, shares its northern portal with the currently active CSX "Park Tunnel" under the Art Museum.
