Remarks & Notes
Burlington Northern intermodal hotshot with three EMD GP60 demonstrators and a lone B30-7A roll along Airport Way next to Boeing Field as the engineer begins to slow down for their arrival at the South Seattle Hub facility. During the mid 1980's Burlington Northern's motive power philosophy favored high-horsepower four axle units on priority intermodal freights and six axle units on heavy tonnage trains for maximum tractive effort. Thus when new four axle locomotive models were offered from builder EMD or GE the railroad was eager to give them a try testing out their newly proclaimed operating efficiencies. Also notable, these particular demonstrator units had subtle styling cues to the cab and more pronounced rounded edges that did not make it into the final production model.
