Remarks & Notes |
June 6, 1977 was a big day for Salt Lake City and for Amtrak. The very first run of the Seattle to Salt Lake City 'Pioneer' arrived at the Union Pacific depot downtown. This new connection bridged the gap between Utah's capital city and Ogden with Amtrak 'San Francisco Zephyr' service between Oakland and Chicago. Inbound passengers could also take a short cab ride a couple of blocks and catch the Rio Grande Zephyr for service to Denver on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday mornings. |
