A 14 year effort to preserve the Chicago & Alton Railroad Depot has come to end. Union Pacific has put the demolition project out to bid, it is now a matter of time before it comes down. One of the main reasons to take it down was, how close it was to the main line track, about 15 feet (This is the route for the 110 mpg high speed rail link from Chicago to St Louis) The Chicago & Alton Railroad Depot is said to be the oldest Depot in Illinois. On May 5, 1865, Lincolns funeral train made an attempt to stop at the depot.
