Two F40s and two P40s hustle the 12 cars of Amtrak's Coast Starlight No. 14 northward near Narlon, Calif. on Oct. 8, 1996. The sixth car in the consist is the wine tasting and lounge for passengers riding first class, and it is a former Santa Fe hi-level car from the "El Capitan," one of few such ex-ATSF cars remaining in service.
Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
