Amtrak San Joaquin #708 has just picked up passengers at the Stockton, California, station and is heading toward Bakersfield. But first, F40PH 306 and its five Horizon Fleet cars will cross the Southern Pacific's and Union Pacific's parallel mainlines as it heads down the San Joaquin Valley on the Santa Fe's trackage on March 7th, 1992.
From one train each way in 1973 between Bakersfield and Oakland when it started up, this line as expanded to six trips daily; four to Oakland and two to Sacramento.
