A converted tractor leads a short tourist train up the Hex River Pass. The pass once carried the Cape Main Line from the verdant winelands over the mountains to the Karoo desert on the other side, until the Hexton tunnels were opened to traffic in 1989. The historic line over the pass was saved by an enterprising farmer who managed to get a lease to operate a tourist service on the route and then converted one of his tractors to step in as the line's current sole motive power.
