Santa Fe’s Train 15 Texas Chief derailed at Lomax, Illinois at speed, cars separating but fortunately none turned over, Nov. 2, 1967. It was caused by a broken wheel on a coach some 2.5 miles behind the camera, the truck proceeding down the track on 3 wheels until the first switch was reached at Lomax, and down she came. Sleeping car “Pine Hill” was the rear car.
