A row of ex-South African steam locomotives rest in Auckland: Class 25NC No's 3508 and 3432, and GMAM Garratt No. 4083. These locos were privately purchased and shipped to New Zealand in 1996, to be stored at Mainline Steam's Parnell depot. In 2015 Mainline Steam was forced to abandon the inner-city depot location, and these three locos were moved here awaiting road transfer to another storage site. They are too large to operate on the main line in NZ, and plans for their future appear unclear.
