Remarks & Notes
Conrail's ex-New Haven caboose Class N-8A No. 23662 (originally NH Class NE-6 No. 687,) built by International Car Co. in 1948, rounds the Horseshoe Curve westbound, behind a Penn Central trail van trailer. The caboose is preserved today in Danbury, Connecticut, having arrived at the museum there in 1997 from the United Railway Historical Society collection in New Jersey. The caboose was rebuilt around 1970 by the Penn Central; the windows in the cupola were plated over, a water tank was hung from the ceiling, and the bay windows were added.
