MILW 164 leads three more SD40-2s and two SD10s up the grade to Snoqualmie Pass as it heads a dead freight east at Mine Creek trestle. The trestle shows evidence of Milwaukee's engineering efforts and former electrification in conquering Washington's Cascade Mountains. This will be the last full year of operation of the "Pacific Extension" which many argue should never have been built. BN ended up with the property, superior to both Stevens and Stampede Passes, but in an economy move gave or sold it to the state for a trail. They missed a good opportunity by not choosing to invest in this property.
