“Jesus Saves” With the rowhouses of South Baltimore in the background, CHGN (Chicagoan), lovingly referred to as the “Locust Point Flyer”, with a seven unit lashup (consisting of CS/B&O GP30 6906, B&O GP9 6477, CS/B&O GP40-2 4148, CS/B&O GP40-2 4213, CS/B&O SD50 8586, CS/WM GP9 6400, and CS/B&O GP40-2 4336) is westbound at Leadenhall St. (mp 0.5) on B&O’s Locust Point Subdivision, late in the afternoon of April 26, 1986. In a quarter mile, the train will enter the Washington Sub at BY (Bailey) interlocking to begin its westward trek in earnest.
Despite the signage in the upper left of the photo, even divine intervention wouldn’t save the Chessie System livery, the elimination of which would begin within two weeks of this photo, with the re- paint/numbering of CS/B&O GP40-2 4446 to CSX/B&O 6344 at Huntington on 05/09/1986.
