Amtrak's California Zephyr was detoured via Union Pacific southern Wyoming due to maintenance work on the Moffat Tunnel Line in Colorado starting 6-8-2004. #6 was pacing eastbound UP train Z PDCS 08 downhill.

Even though Amtrak no longer serves the Cowboy State it had a strong presence in the past and trains occasionally detour through the state.
