A 991 train roars upgrade toward tunnel 3 as it heads east through the valley east of the long bore. On the point is a GP40X, one of 10 Santa Fe took delivery of. The 991 was one of the hottest trains on the Santa Fe, covering the distance between Richmond, CA, and Chicago in a scheduled 56 hours.
