Remarks & Notes
Conrail and the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac had a short-lived run-through train between Allentown, Pennsylvania and Richmond, Virginia. The train ran on the former Reading to Philadelphia vie Reading, and then got on the Northeast Corridor to Potomac Yard, where the RF&P took over. A college buddy and I found this motive power lineup in the Bethlehem engine terminal at sunset. The crew was boarding, and offered us a ride to Philadelphia. As college kids of limited means to return from Philly and classes the next day, we settled on a ride to the west end of Allentown yard. Soon we were in the cab of the PC SD35, backing through the crossovers at Steel Tower, and then off to the yard. It added over a mile to our walk back to campus, but it was worth every step.
