A Burlington Northern grain train climbs Mullan Pass west of Helena, Montana, on August 28, 1993. BN GE C30-7 No. 5022 leads a sister C30-7 and two EMD SD40-2s on the head end, while a four-unit mid-train helper is passing milepost 13 cut in about mid train. Out of view is another four-unit helper on the rear approaching the road crossing at West Austin. During this time, Montana Rail Link helper sets are made up of a mixture of SD40, SD45 and SD45-2 units. The train fills the valley with the sound of hard working locomotives as it negotiates multiple curves and a 2.2% grade.
